about the song
When I headed to the studio to record “Just a Mom”, my producer and I went over the lyrics, like we always do. He turned to me and said, “maybe you should say the word Mom less because it’s part of the hook.” I laughed. With any other song, I’d agree. But hearing mom a million times a day is the epitome of being a mom – because being a mom means you’re everything. You’re needed for everything.
Not only did we leave the word throughout the song, but after explaining this to him, we ended up adding more “moms” into the song by bringing my kids onboard to shout it back and forth.
There are many reasons I wrote this song. I don’t think enough music covers what it means, or how it feels, to be a stay at home mom. The constant feeling that you’re never good enough because the world doesn’t see your job as work. The overwhelming feeling of being there for your children when you can hardly be there for yourself. But no matter how much you’re falling apart at the seams, you always come through because you’re a mom.
I hope this song can be an anthem for moms who are struggling out there and need a reminder that they mean so much to their children. A reminder that what they’re doing isn’t just important, but the most important. What you do matters. It makes a difference.
If being “just a mom” means wearing a million different hats and being absolutely everything for everyone, then I am proud to be “just a mom”.
